Building a Supportive Network: Connecting with Like-Minded Entrepreneurs Online

As entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves grappling with the weight of our ambitions. When we don’t realize our aspirations in the time we think we’re supposed to, this can take a toll on our mental well-being.

While seeking professional help for mental health concerns is vital, there's another avenue that holds immense potential – forging connections with fellow entrepreneurs who understand the unique challenges we face.

In a research study, 72% of entrepreneurs reported that they struggled with their mental health.

A supportive network places you among individuals who go through similar challenges as you do, can expand your business, keep you on track for your goals, inspire you, and assist in your evolution as the badass boss you are.

What’s stopping you from being two things at the same time?

You CAN be a self-made success story AND part of a group (or several groups) of incredible individuals eager to revolutionize entrepreneurship and remind each other that we are kick-ass leaders!

How To Choose Members of Your Support Network

How do you determine who to pursue or allow into your support network?

👉🏼 First, don’t limit yourself. You may find connections in the most unexpected places.

👉🏼 Second, do what makes sense. Lean into existing avenues and reach out to people you relate to in some way.

👉🏼 Third, and most importantly, choose actions that align with your inner sense of purpose for your business.

Through networking, you may find varied intersections of commonalities with others.

Potential candidates might share similar interests — personal or professional, come from the same alma mater, be curious about similar topics as you, be in the startup stage of a shared industry, fall under similar demographics, or be in the same geographic location.

Now, let’s get into the more practical side of things.

8 Ways to Build Your Support Network

  1. Sign up for virtual networking events or webinars — This route is almost too good to be true because it’s easy and there’s no catch! You meet people ready to help, might gain new clients, and you will learn tons.

  2. Join social media groups and online forums — Always make sure the community aligns with the core elements of your business: your values and goals.

  3. Attend in-person industry events with like-minded persons who, like you, are open to networking and mutual growth. You might even reach out to someone for mentorship!

  4. Use online platforms and networking apps like LinkedIn, Eventbrite or Meetup which do the heavy lifting for you to bring conferences, workshops, and other events in one place — Be picky about which events you attend. Ask yourself “Why do I want to attend THIS event?” Is it the community practice? Meeting new people? Interesting topic?

  5. Join in-person co-working spaces where many are willing to collaborate and share ideas as they mingle in a relaxed environment. Virtual co-working spaces are more organized, involving set times to meet up, share your progress, help each other with challenges, and offer new ways to master self-leadership.

  6. Joining a virtual co-working group can provide a sense of community and support. These groups often meet virtually, sharing their goals, progress, and challenges, while holding each other accountable.

  7. Participate in online challenges — Collaborating with like-minded entrepreneurs on a project or a challenge can foster a supportive network. This is a fun way to show others you share their interests and are willing to put in the work to build your business.
